In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s NEC said the purported primary election did not follow laid-down party guidelines and was not approved by the party’s national leadership.

According to the statement, Accord Party only recognises primaries organised and supervised by its National Executive Committee, stressing that any parallel process carried out by individuals or groups without official backing remains null and void.

The NEC cautioned party members and the general public against dealing with candidates or factions emerging from the disputed primary, warning that such actions could attract disciplinary measures.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, transparency and due process, assuring members in Osun State that an officially recognised governorship primary would be conducted at the appropriate time.

The development comes amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the next governorship election in the state.
