At the summit, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global climate leadership and a green transition. He participated in the Leaders’ Climate Summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, alongside other world leaders, development partners, and business executives.

Delivering Nigeria’s statement, titled “The Rational Soul of Nature”, Shettima called on world leaders to acknowledge the economic value of nature and mobilise predictable, equitable, and accessible funding for its protection and restoration.

Shettima emphasized that Nigeria’s climate agenda is not just aspirational but a national commitment to safeguarding the planet for future generations.

On the sidelines of COP30, he held bilateral meetings focusing on carbon market cooperation. These discussions aim to unlock between $2.5 billion and $3 billion annually in carbon finance for Nigeria over the next decade, supporting the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s growing role in international climate diplomacy and efforts to align economic growth with environmental sustainability.
