The lawmakers are Aliyu Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency), Abdulkareem Ahmed (Kaduna South Federal Constituency), and Sadiq Abdullahi (Sabon Gari Federal Constituency).

Their letters of defection were read by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, during plenary on Tuesday. The move was witnessed by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who was present in the chamber.

In their notices, the lawmakers cited internal crises within the PDP as their main reason for leaving the opposition party.

However, Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House, objected to the defections, arguing that there was no recognized division within the PDP to justify such a move.

“You could have some crisis, but that does not amount to division in the party,” Chinda said.

Deputy Speaker Kalu acknowledged his objection but ruled against it, allowing the defections to stand.

The PDP has in recent weeks suffered a series of high-profile defections, including that of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and members of his cabinet, who also joined the APC.
