APC Caretaker Chairman in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, made the announcement in Abuja during the inauguration of the state’s caretaker committee. According to him, the governor’s defection will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2024, and will include all 260 ward councillors, 24 members of the State House of Assembly, National Assembly members, and the entire PDP State Executive Committee.

Nwoye described the move as the “death knell” for the PDP in Enugu, noting that Governor Mbah will be joining the APC “with the whole structure of Enugu PDP.”

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, while inaugurating the caretaker committee, commended the development, calling it a major realignment that will reshape Southeast politics.

“APC is home for all. Our goal is to expand, to win, and to deliver overwhelming victory in 2027,” Yilwatda said.

Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, hailed the defection as the Southeast’s return to national political relevance.

“With Enugu in APC, the Southeast has found its voice again,” he said.

Party insiders described the move as the most consequential political realignment in the region since 1999, saying it will end PDP’s 25-year dominance and strengthen APC’s presence across the Southeast.

Dr. Nwoye added, “Where Enugu goes, the Southeast goes. Never again will the opposition dominate our region. Governor Mbah has transformed Enugu in two years, and now he will anchor APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the Southeast.”
