Zulum, who addressed the leaders during a peace and security parley in Maiduguri, said the narrative portraying the insurgency as a clash between Islam and Christianity was misleading and dangerous for national unity.
He explained that the terrorists have consistently attacked Muslims and Christians alike, targeting innocent civilians, traditional institutions, security agencies, and public infrastructure without regard for religious identity.
The governor appealed to faith leaders to help counter extremist narratives by promoting tolerance, unity, and accurate information within their communities.
Zulum added that his administration will continue to collaborate with religious bodies to strengthen interfaith peacebuilding efforts across Borno State.
