The union disclosed the decision in a brief statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, warning that the action would proceed if the Federal Government failed to meet its long-standing demands.

According to ASUU, the strike is aimed at compelling the government to implement fair remuneration for lecturers, improve working conditions, and address other issues responsible for the continued exodus of academic personnel from Nigerian universities.

“All universities will be closed nationwide till further notice on Friday,” the statement read.

The union also rejected the Federal Government’s proposed 35% salary increase, insisting that the offer fell short of the renegotiated terms in the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement.

Recall that ASUU had in October suspended its two-week warning strike to allow for further renegotiation of the agreement and the resolution of other unresolved matters affecting the university system.
