renewed effort to promote environmental sustainability and reduce the effects of climate change, the scheme allows residents to drop off sorted recyclables and receive instant cash rewards.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the initiative on Monday through his official X handle, noting that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Recycling Team is already on the ground across the city, starting with Lagos Island.

“Did you know your trash can turn into cash?” Wahab said, encouraging residents to participate. “We’re rewarding Lagosians every Thursday for helping us keep the city clean and green. It’s a win for your wallet and a win for our city!”

In an accompanying video, LAWMA officials were seen weighing bags of sorted plastics and other recyclables on portable scales before handing out cash rewards to participants.

The initiative, under the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, aims to deepen the culture of recycling, create green jobs, and reduce waste pressure on landfills across the state.
