The state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the development in a statement shared via the government’s official X handle on Monday. He explained that although the project was initially scheduled to begin before the end of the year, additional feasibility studies and stakeholder consultations along the Lekki–Epe corridor made the shift necessary.

According to Osiyemi, the 70-kilometre Green Line will connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, featuring 17 stations along both elevated and ground-level tracks. The line will begin at Marina, pass through Victoria Island, connect to the Lekki–Epe Expressway, and continue through Ajah, Sangotedo, and the Lekki Free Zone.

The commissioner stated that the project will be executed in two major phases — the first covering the Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, and the second, starting from Marina, will include an on-water rail segment.

He added that the Green Line is expected to be completed within two to three years once construction begins, reaffirming the state’s commitment to expanding its modern rail network to ease mobility and support economic growth.
