According to figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the local currency appreciated to N1,480.66/$1 at the official window on Friday, up from N1,488.26/$1 on Thursday. This reflects a day-to-day gain of N7.6.

In the black market, the naira also strengthened, trading at N1,495/$1 on Friday, compared with N1,497/$1 the previous day.

The most notable surge occurred on Wednesday, when the naira appreciated sharply in the parallel market, marking its strongest performance of the week.

On a week-on-week basis, the currency gained N7.24 at the official market and N27 at the parallel market.

The appreciation coincides with a rise in Nigeria’s external reserves, which climbed by 0.45 per cent to $42.22 billion on Thursday, September 25, 2025, up from $42.03 billion recorded the previous week.

Analysts say the naira’s performance reflects growing market confidence and sustained interventions by the CBN aimed at stabilising the forex market and strengthening external reserves.
