Obi to Tinubu: Pay Pensioners Now That Revenue Targets Have Been Met

In a statement on Tuesday, Obi expressed deep concern that pensioners — men and women who dedicated the most productive years of their lives to national service — were now being forced to consider nationwide protests over unpaid entitlements.

He recalled that Tinubu had only last month announced that Nigeria had met its revenue target, insisting that this achievement should first reflect in the wellbeing of the people.

“If it is true that revenue targets have been met, then the moral question is simple: why are our senior citizens still being owed pensions and gratuities?” Obi queried. “Revenue growth should first reflect in the lives of the people, especially those in difficult times.”

He warned that celebrating revenue milestones while neglecting pensioners was both unjust and unacceptable. According to him, the excess revenue must not remain on paper but be channelled towards restoring dignity to retirees and reassuring the workforce that their service is valued.

“Good leadership and compassion are inseparable,” Obi added, urging Tinubu to act swiftly in addressing the plight of pensioners across the country.
