The move was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by Agbor Affiong, General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration.

According to the statement, the decision was reached after a virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, which stretched into the early hours of Thursday, September 11.

“The strike will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 12th September 2025, and end on Tuesday, 16th September 2025. All centres are hereby directed to duly inform their hospital managements and continue to press home our collective demands,” the communiqué read.

Earlier in the week, NARD President, Dr. Osundara Zenith, told journalists that members were prepared to shut down public hospitals nationwide to demand action on issues including:

  1. poor working conditions,
  2. shortage of manpower and essential equipment,
  3. downgrading of medical certificates,
  4. inadequate remuneration, and
  5. neglect of previously signed agreements.

KogiTribune recalls that the FCT branch of NARD is already on a seven-day warning strike, which began on Monday, further compounding the healthcare crisis in Abuja and surrounding states.

The latest nationwide strike threat raises fears of widespread disruption in healthcare delivery across Nigeria, as resident doctors form the backbone of clinical services in teaching hospitals and federal medical centres.
