Lamido urged the PDP leadership to woo Jonathan back into the party, describing him as the most experienced and competent candidate from the South.
“I think for PDP now, they should try to woo him; he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” Lamido stated.
Highlighting Jonathan’s leadership experience, governance skills, and ability to work well with others, Lamido said no current PDP member from the South can match the former president’s credentials.
“He is most welcome, competent, and very qualified. With all respect to all members, I don’t see a better alternative than Jonathan if he comes to the PDP,” he said. “If we are giving the presidency to the South, who in the PDP now can challenge Jonathan in terms of experience, willingness to listen, and belief in partnership?”
Lamido’s remarks come amid growing speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to the PDP and a 2027 presidential bid. Since losing the 2015 election, Jonathan has maintained a relatively low political profile, but reports of behind-the-scenes lobbying have kept him in the spotlight as one of the most closely watched figures ahead of the next polls.
