U.S. Mission in Nigeria Warns Against Birth Tourism Visa Applications.

In a statement posted Monday on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, @USinNigeria, the U.S. mission announced that visa applications from individuals suspected of intending to travel primarily for the purpose of giving birth in the U.S. will be rejected.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the post stated. “Consular officers will deny your visa application if they suspect this is your intent.”

The warning, featuring hashtags #VisaWiseTravelSmart and #USVisa, is part of a larger awareness initiative aimed at encouraging responsible visa practices and reinforcing immigration regulations.

The U.S. government has previously raised alarms about birth tourism, stating that it undermines the integrity of the nation’s immigration system.
